Consultant Addiction Medicine Physician/Psychiatrist
Contract: Permanent, full-time (40 hours p/w)

About the role
We are looking for a Consultant Addiction Medicine Physician or Consultant Psychiatrist at our Tūhonohono Addiction Services.
The role involves working closely with case managers and other staff within the service to ensure collaborative care. The Consultant is responsible for liaising with primary care providers and NGO partners, supporting the medical development of the service, and liaising with other services and hospital departments as required.
About the Team/Service/Location
Tūhonohono Addiction Services (including Community Alcohol and Drug Service, Opioid Treatment Service, Managed Withdrawal Service, and Co-Existing Disorder Service) is a multidisciplinary team comprising nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, specialist medical staff, and administration staff. We value working in a client and whānau-centred manner, including cultural and community connections, to deliver high-quality services.
The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, and Capital and Coast regions, providing local, regional, and national services from multiple sites. Te Korowai Whariki services include regional forensic and rehabilitation services, and the intellectual disability services extend across the country from six bases in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
The Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington, with over 6,000 staff, operating three hospitals—Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital—as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
- Vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Hold Fellowship in Addiction Specialty or Fellowship with a medical college and able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- Or hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP)
- Faculty of the chapter of Addiction Medicine can be entered through various training pathways, including General Practice
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
- Consistently high standards of medical care
- Relevant experience and training
