About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to join our Democracy Services team as an Advisor. The role will contribute to strategic focus areas to build strong and effective relationships between elected members, iwi and staff, and to increase public participation in local democracy.

The Advisor role will work with other members of the Democracy Services team to provide consistent and high-quality support and advice to Council's elected members and staff on governance matters, meetings requirements and decision-making processes, and to facilitate the management of Council and committee meetings.

Skills and experience:

  • Facilitating council and committee systems and processes including preparing and distributing agendas, supporting meetings, preparing minutes, and advertising meetings to meet council's legislative requirements
  • Providing sound advice to the Mayor, Councillors and staff on governance matters including Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, Local Government Act 2002 and Standing Orders
  • Building strong and effective relationships with the Mayor, elected members and staff by fostering strong and trusted relationships
  • Preparing high-quality written reports council, committees and community boards
  • Supporting governance and local democratic projects such as local body elections, by-elections, representation reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives within the team and wider organisation
