We are looking for Assistant Aquarists and Aquarists to join our Curatorial team, looking after iconic marine life in a unique environment. About the Role These positions involve assisting the Curatorial department with the day to day running of the aquarium, working primarily with salt and freshwater fish habitats. The aquarium is home to a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish, crustaceans, Tuatara and Penguins as well as acting as a rehabilitation facility for marine sea Turtles. You will have the chance to not only care for these amazing animals, but also to promote education and conservation through providing a unique experience for our visitors. Please note: This position involves working 40 hours per week, including some weekends and public holidays. About You For all our roles, a passion for working in the tourism/attraction industry is essential. To shine in this role you will also:Hold a SCUBA certification of Rescue Diver, Dive Master, Dive Instructor or Commercial Diving QualificationHave the ability to pass and maintain an occupational dive medical certificationHave Exceptional attention to detail and delivery of immaculately clean displaysDemonstrate Excellent observation, organisational, record keeping and communication skillsHolding valid New Zealand working rights is essential, alongside the ability to bend/Stoop; Squat; Crawl; Crouch; Kneel; Balance; Climb Heights (4m); Carry and Lift up to 30kg. Holding first aid and/or oxygen resuscitation training and knowledge of marine animal husbandry within the aquarium industry is also preferable but not essential. Additionally, computer skills using MS Office and Excel is desirable. You are an exceptional communicator, are solution focused, and are able to use your experience to work well in a successful and collaborative team. You have a flexible and adaptable approach along with high attention to detail and demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills.
