Help Train the Next Generation of Builders We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Builder Trainer to join our Rukuhia te Mahi team in Whakatāne. This 32-hours-per-week role combines hands on building mahi with mentoring, supervision, and practical skills training. You'll work directly with tauira on real construction projects, helping them build industry ready capability and gain BCITO Level 1, Level 2 (foundation), and Level 3 (advanced) unit standards. You will be essential in guiding tauira toward apprenticeships and employment pathways supporting them to grow their confidence, skills, and work readiness in a realworld construction environment. You will also: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and model best practise at all times Provide regular feedback on tauira progress and contribute to reporting requirements Work closely with the workforce trainer to ensure the practical tasks align with the classroom theory Plan and coordinate meaningful work placement opportunities What Makes You a Good Fit You’re a reliable and experienced Builder with at least a Level 4 trade qualification, bringing strong practical knowledge and confidence across residential construction, and ideally some exposure to commercial work. You bring: Experience mentoring, supervising, or training others on-site, with the ability to break down tasks clearly and safely. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with tauira, colleagues and external stakeholders. A learner‑centred approach grounded in tikanga Māori Patience with high standards for safe and quality practice. A genuine passion and commitment to helping tauira develop skills, confidence, and pathways into the building industry.
