Career growth opportunity.
Shape the most liveable district.
Collaborative and engaging organisation with a great culture.
South Taranaki District Council is a mid-sized, provincial local authority that operates in one of New Zealand’s most vibrant and dynamic economic regions. The Council is in excellent shape and there is a rich, people-centric culture. With the recent resignation of its current Chief Executive (CE) to take up another position, the Council is seeking their next chief executive.
The CE is accountable to the Council with the support of a well-established senior leadership team. The CE will be a trusted advisor to the Mayor, elected members, iwi and various committees on policy, strategy and operational matters. The CE will have the knowledge and qualities to promote a dynamic and collaborative organisational culture. They will have the ability to lead staff to deliver excellent services to the community and have oversight of the District’s finances, including the Long-Term Investment Fund. Council is also seeking someone who will help and advise them through the current and emerging local government reforms.
To be considered, you must have proven senior leadership experience, ideally gained from within local government. You will be people-focused with a strong customer and community focus as the basis of your work ethos. You will be a strategic thinker with an ability to form good relationships with regional stakeholders and central government. You will have a sound appreciation of Te Ao Māori and promote the principles in relation to Te Tiriti whilst continuing to build our existing relationships with our Iwi/Māori partners. You will be politically aware, have a high level of financial acumen, as well as a proven ability to influence change and deliver results.
This is an exceptional opportunity to lead an organisation that has passion and pride for the work it does for its community.
