Te Whare Oranga Tangata o Whakaue (Whare Whakaue) is a 14-bed Adult inpatient unit based in Rotorua serving the community of Lakes area, including Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are preparing to move into the brand new contemporary 16-bed unit that is designed to better enable the aspirations of the model of care Te Ara Tauwhirotanga.

The team is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to provide essential psychological input to the service. The role offers the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team, peer support lead, consumer and cultural advisors, and to work alongside tangata whaiora and their family/whanau as they navigate a time of mental health crisis, to help them make sense of their experiences in the context of their lives, and to move towards resolution of that crisis and recovery. To contribute to a seamless experience for tangata whaiora during their recovery journey, the role provides select intervention following discharge alongside the Closer to Home and Acute Response /Home Based Treatment teams, as agreed by the MDT.

The Psychologist role is supported by a professional advisor (Psychology) within Mental Health Services. You will also be part of a broader team of psychologists across adult mental health services. Under the APEX collective contract psychologists receive an allowance (pro rata) dependent on Salary Step for Continuing Professional Development which can be accumulated over two years.
