Description

Consultant Psychiatrist – Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service and Home-Based Treatment

Bay of Plenty Mental Health and Addiction Service

About The Role

Health New Zealand - Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty has an exciting and rare opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to work in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.

This is a shared position between the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (0.4 FTE) and community-based care (Home Based Treatment), working 0.6 FTE.

Home-based Treatment (HBT) is an integral part of the Adult Community Mental Health and Addictions Acute Care Team and wider community mental health services. HBT is based on the premise that some people's recovery is better enabled by treating them at home in their community, surrounded by their loved ones.

The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in our general medical hospital and outpatient clinic. As a C-L Psychiatrist, you will work at the interface between psychiatry and other medical disciplines, collaborating with physicians, surgeons, and healthcare professionals to assess and manage psychiatric conditions and psychological and behavioural aspects in patients with complex medical and surgical illnesses.

This role involves providing specialist assessment and treatment across the continuum of care, including general hospital-based services (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service) and community-based care (Home Based Treatment). These services are strongly linked.

Our hospital is a teaching facility with Psychiatric Registrars Training through the Upper Central North Island (UCNI) scheme, and we host 5th and 6th-year medical students from the University of Auckland.

About You

Criteria for this position include:

  • Being a Vocationally Registered Psychiatrist with the Medical Council of NZ or eligible for registration.
  • Holding fellowship with the RANZCP or an equivalent qualification.
  • A desire to work collaboratively to improve community outcomes, supporting and educating others in the process.

If you enjoy working in a patient-centred, collaborative, creative, and collegial team, this could be your next opportunity.
