About our service: MHAS is responsible for the commissioning and delivery of primary, specialist, and community mental health & addiction services across a diverse urban and rural population of 186,000.

We provide treatment for and connection to recovery-orientated services for individuals experiencing mental illness or addiction issues.

Services are delivered across the continuum of lifespan, both regionally and locally, and include specialist community MH&A teams, kaupapa (Māori), Child Adolescent Mental Health Services, inpatient services, crisis response, acute alternatives, specialist primary mental health service, consultation-liaison MH, and specially designed residential programmes.

MHAS has embarked on a programme of transformational change for adult and crisis services, which sees a fundamental shift in the way services are delivered.

Services are moving towards a wellness and recovery-focused approach in our community that prioritises access, choice, and care closer to home.

The change sees significant investment into digital technologies and new infrastructure including the construction of a new “greenfield” state-of-the-art acute inpatient unit.

About our organisation: Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – Mid Central is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand.

Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery.

The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.

We are actively recruiting for Psychiatrists in the following areas: CAHMS Community Inpatient Consultation Liaison Alcohol and other drug services including an OST service (Medical Officer) We are keen to hear from Psychiatrists who are interested in locum, fixed term or permanent positions.
