12-month contract – South Wairarapa-based – make a real difference!
The Aorangi Restoration Trust is a small, committed conservation trust working to restore the 20,000-hectare Aorangi Forest Park, alongside the Wairarapa Moana wetlands and adjacent coastlines. Working with GWRC, DOC and local Iwi our work spans predator control, native restoration, wildlife protection, community engagement, and advocacy for one of the southern North Island's most important natural landscapes.
We are seeking an Aorangi Development Lead to help take our impact to the next level. About the role
Reporting to the Trust Board, this hands‐on role brings together fundraising, partnerships, fieldwork, coordination, and storytelling. You will:
Get to know the Aorangi landscape in fine detail
Lead fundraising and funder relationship development (grants, donors, sponsors)
Coordinate predator trapping programmes (volunteer and paid contractors)
Support and grow restoration and wildlife projects (including reafforestation, track work, predator & ungulate control and little blue penguin habitat work)
Build strong relationships with landowners, Government agencies, iwi, schools, catchment groups and other community groups
Raise the public profile and usage of the Aorangi Forest and Trust through media, events, and education opportunities
Help shape the Trust's strategy and long‐term sustainability. About you
You're likely someone who:
Is comfortable working across community, funders, and field projects
Can balance big‐picture thinking with practical delivery
Communicates well and builds trust and teams easily and uplifts individuals
Cares deeply about conservation and community‐led environmental work
Is adaptable, self‐directed, and motivated by purpose rather than hierarchy.
