Following a period of growth, MSS is resetting its structure to align with future priorities.
The newly established Director Operations role will be central to strengthening delivery, embedding fit-for-purpose systems, and enabling consistent, high-performing operations.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role translates strategy into effective operational practice and supports organisational performance.
VISION AND MISSIONSupporting a safe, competent, and trusted medical science imaging, and radiation therapy workforce across Aotearoa New Zealand Enabling effective, consistent, and high-quality regulation in the public interest Delivering integrated operational and advisory services to regulatory bodies Promoting efficiency, collaboration, and alignment through shared systems and processes ABOUT THE ROLE The Director Operations leads the development and delivery of MSS's operational framework, ensuring the systems, processes, and capability required to perform at a high level are in place.
Key areas of focus include: Leading core operational functions aligned to organisational priorities Embedding effective systems, processes, and governance frameworks Supporting planning, performance monitoring, and reporting Strengthening internal capability and ways of working Overseeing MSS's technology, systems, and infrastructure, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and fit-for-purpose, with a focus on continuous improvement and risk management Partnering with the Chief Executive and senior stakeholders to enable delivery This role will suit someone who thrives in evolving environments and enjoys building structure, clarity, and capability.
ABOUT YOU You are an experienced senior operational leader with both strategic insight and delivery focus.
You bring the ability to create clarity, prioritise effectively, and lift organisational performance.
You will bring: Senior experience in operations, business services, or organisational leadership Strong understanding of governance, planning, and performance frameworks Experience with organisational change and project management, improving systems, processes, and operational structures A balance of strategic thinking and hands‐on delivery Highly developed communication and relationship‐building skills Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with senior leaders and Boards Strong digital capability and confidence across key business systems, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Power BI, Project)Sound judgement, resilience, and adaptability Experience in the health or professional services sector is advantageous.
