As an Education Advisor within the Student Support Team, you will work with students, whanau, individual schools or clusters of schools, service providers and community agencies to engage children and young people into education.

Using data, local knowledge and relationships, you will also work to improve the systems and infrastructure that support student engagement and achievement.

Young people at risk of not achieving need innovative educational solutions to meet their learning needs.

This position requires close working relationships and an understanding of education, including alternative education, activity centres, attendance service, and local tailor-made services to develop a learning pathway that is sustainable for the most challenging students.

Salary range: $84,425-$102,271 per annum + 3% Kiwi Saver.

The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake This is a broad student-focused role but is targeted mainly at children and young people who have become disconnected from education and getting them reconnected as quickly as possible.

To achieve this, the Education Advisor must be able to access relevant databases quickly and efficiently, and work with a range of people, both inside and outside the Ministry.

The successful applicant will have to demonstrate that they can quickly establish strong relationships of purpose and high credibility with the education sector, and alongside other government departments and NGOs to get the job done.

A tertiary qualification is preferred, alongside an understanding of the Ministry of Education's statutory operations and relevant legislation.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies: * Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with student achievement data and information to determine needs and prioritie.

* Experience in developing and implementing projects.

* Experience in the delivery of inclusive and equitable outcomes for children and young people.

* An ability to develop and maintain strong, effective relationships both within and outside the Ministry.

* Strong oral and written communication skills.

* An understanding of te reo Maori ona tikanga.

* A sound knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and education system including pathways such as Alternative Education, Te Kura o te Pounamu and Home Education.

* The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.

* A current, full driver licence.

About our group and team | Matau ropu ake Te Mahau takiwa collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the education sector.

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a takiwa group consisting of four regions: Waikato; Bay of Plenty, Waiariki; Hawke's Bay, Tairawhiti; and Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapu.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled akonga and/or akonga with learning support needs, and akonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The role of the Student Support Team is to support children and young people to access an education provision that meets their needs and supports the re-engagement of children and young people in their learning pathway.
