Mō te tūranga - About the role The Business Governance and Controls (BG&C) Centre of Excellence (Co E) are key business partners in identifying, monitoring and managing risks, obligations and the control environment in line with ANZ’s non-financial risk framework (I. AM). The BG&C Co E promote and strengthen the effectiveness and management of ANZ’s material risk and a strong risk and compliance culture. As the BG&C Lead in ANZ’s BG&C Co E, you will be a pivotal force in providing strategic risk management leadership to business units and the wider Co E. Your leadership will be crucial in monitoring and supporting key frameworks (including AML, CCCFA and FAP) and supporting business units with advisory, change risk and event management. These efforts will ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and compliance with licensing requirements, reinforcing our commitment to excellence and regulatory integrity. Role Location: Auckland or Wellington Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like?As the BG&C Lead, you will: Establish and lead regulatory and licensing support, change risk and event management across business units to enhance both banker and customer experience and ensure continued adherence to regulatory requirements. Contribute to all relevant risk and compliance governance reporting to senior management, Risk Committees, subsidiary Boards, Regulators and Supervisors as required. Lead and support priority objectives to better the performance of the wider BG&C Co E. Offer expert advice, influence decision-making, and serve as the primary contact for senior leaders, aiding in risk management across the business. Oversee program assurance activities, including compliance frameworks, policies, and processes (including AML and Fraud), to ensure ongoing accuracy and effectiveness in meeting compliance obligations and licensing requirements. Foster strong collaboration and connections with stakeholders and senior leaders across the organization to enhance assurance services. Lead relationship management activities and maintain close collaboration between the Centre of Excellence (Co E) and key business stakeholders. Cultivate a high-performing, engaging team environment that supports high standards, role clarity, development, and flexibility across the function.Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following: Proven senior leadership experience, including an ability to think strategically and commercially, driving an adaptive, agile risk culture and inspiring organisational change. Sound appreciation of all aspects of compliance and operational risk with demonstrated knowledge of risk compliance. Expert understanding of operational risk & compliance with deep previous experience working in a Risk management context in the Financial Services environment. Strong understanding in the business processes and activities for the business area of oversight responsibility. Experience leading through influence and collaborative style of working. Ability to build strong, open and collaborative working relationships, including communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders, including at GM and Exec level. Superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills able to extract key information to practical insight. You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills.
