Location: Auckland, New Zealand Short Description We are seeking a skilled Cassandra Database Administrator to manage and optimize our distributed No SQL database environment. You will be responsible for the performance, availability, scalability, and security of our Cassandra clusters. This role requires a deep understanding of Cassandra architecture, data modeling, performance tuning, and operational best practices in a distributed environment. Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain Cassandra clusters. Perform capacity planning and node provisioning for Cassandra. Implement and manage data replication and consistency across the cluster. Perform database upgrades and patching in a rolling fashion. Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies for Cassandra. Monitor cluster performance using Cassandra monitoring tools and identify bottlenecks. Perform query optimization and data modeling for Cassandra. Implement and enforce security measures, including authentication and authorization. Troubleshoot cluster issues and provide timely resolutions. Develop and maintain Cassandra documentation and operational procedures. Collaborate with development teams on data model design and query optimization for Cassandra. Skills and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Proven experience (typically 12+ years) as a Cassandra Database Administrator. Strong understanding of distributed No SQL database concepts and Cassandra architecture. Hands-on experience with Cassandra installation, configuration, and administration. Experience with Cassandra data modeling principles. Proficiency in CQL (Cassandra Query Language). Solid understanding of Cassandra backup and recovery methods. Experience with Cassandra performance monitoring and tuning tools. Knowledge of Cassandra security best practices. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills in a distributed systems context. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment. Bonus Points: Experience with other No SQL databases. Experience with cloud-based Cassandra services. Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python). Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet). Contributions to the Cassandra community Additional Skills: Excellent customer interfacing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and outstanding analytical and Problem-solving skills.
