About the Team

Reporting to the Director of Midwifery, this role will see you interfacing with the tertiary and secondary maternity units at Dunedin and Southland Hospitals, working in conjunction with Charge Midwife Managers (CMMs), Clinical Directors, Service Managers and external stakeholders to provide quality service delivery for women and their babies. You will be working operationally to develop a high performing team who embody our organisational values of Kind – Manaakitanga | Open – Pono | Positive – Whaiwhakaaro | Community – Whanaungatanga.

About the Role

Acting as second in charge to the Director of Midwifery, this role is positioned to focus on the safe delivery of midwifery and maternity care and operational services within the maternity units at Dunedin and Southland Hospital by:
Communicating and role modelling the Southern DHB vision, mission and values.
Supporting the philosophy and practice of an organisational wide systems approach to service and operational processes ensuring an environment which puts the patient/client first.
Supporting performance excellence and quality improvement aligned to Southern DHB’s quality framework, fostering excellence in quality midwifery standards and practice, performance and professional conduct.
Providing effective resource management of workforce, capacity and financial resources in consultation with Analysts and Human Resources.
Analysing and reporting on performance, providing comment and developing risk mitigating strategies on issues that threaten to impact on the performance of the service.
Ensuring internal service structures, practices and controls to monitor and manage resource utilisation, risk, quality and compliance are in place and are active.
Leading and facilitating focus groups/projects that advance issues and strategies of service/organisational priority.
Fostering a culture of innovation and strategic thinking.

You can be based in either Dunedin or Invercargill and travel between these 2 sites is essential.

About You

Contributing to the success of this role will be your proven leadership capability – with an innate ability to motivate those around you, create a positive environment, to clinically engage and effect change where and when required. You’ll foster a culture of innovation and strategic thinking; you’ll know how to ‘get things done’; you’ll have proven experience in building effective teams, developing direct reports and most important is your ability to demonstrate what we call ‘managerial courage’.

Our successful candidate will demonstrate significant operational knowledge within Midwifery and sound leadership experience at a senior level; hold registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and hold, or be actively working towards, a relevant Masters qualification. We are looking for someone who can complement the strategic leadership provided by the Director of Midwifery and be able to hit the ground running with day-to-day operations.
