So having to engage with government to register a birth or a death, apply for a wedding licence or begin the path to citizenship should be a straightforward, easy experience.

We are looking for an experienced Director Programme Management Office  to join our waka and support this important mahi.

Because of the work we do, you need to have New Zealand Citizenship to be considered for this role.

This is a one-year fixed term engagement.

Our Work New Zealanders expect to be able to access government services seamlessly, irrespective of the specific agency providing the services.

We want people to have more control over their information, our work puts customers and their whanau at the heart of everything we do.

Service Delivery and Operations, is DIA's largest branch, overseeing a wide range of services, including Identity and Passport Services, Births, Deaths and Marriages, Citizenship, Charities Services, Authentications, Translations, Digital Transformation, and Community Operations.

Te Ara Manaaki is a multi-year programme responsible for transforming its system of service delivery for identity and life event services and products.

Our work includes: Passports and Citizenship Our new customer centred management system is the basis for us to deliver easy to access, integrated, consistent services across multiple government agencies.  We're now expanding service and product offerings such as helping families apply for their first passports with a single application.

Digital Identity We'll be establishing safe and secure ways for customers to share and use their identity data efficiently and effectively, including changes overtime to Real Me.

About the Role As the Director PMO , you'll play a dual role in overseeing quality assurance and managing the activities of the Programme Management Office for Te Ara Manaaki.

You'll directly contribute to the success of the programme by providing thoughtful leadership and strategic oversight across benefits and quality management, programme planning, governance and reporting including milestone management, integration, and risk and issue management.

Essential to delivering these responsibilities will be your in-depth understanding of financial forecasting and management, resource planning and recruitment, and dependency management.

Day to day you'll be the single point of accountability and responsibility for ensuring ongoing direction, management and delivery of programme governance and reporting requirements, while supporting the General Manager Te Ara Manaaki to deliver these same requirements to department executive leaders, Service Delivery and Operations Leadership Team, Central Agencies, and the Ministers Office.

About You You'll have a combination of experience, knowledge and attributes that contribute to your effectiveness in overseeing and leading a programme management office in a large complex programme of work.

You'll have extensive experience working on large scale programme delivery leading a successful programme management office effective in delivering outcomes efficiently and effectively.

You'll have an ability to inspire and motivate a team toward common goals, strong decision-making skills, especially under pressure.

You'll have clear and effective communication, a skill in conveying complex information and be an active listener to understand stakeholders needs and concerns.

You'll be a forward-thinker anticipating challenges and plan for contingencies, with an understanding of how the programme contributes to broader department goals.

You'll have exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and an ability to manage and balance diverse stakeholder interests and expectations.

You'll have a good understanding of quality assurance and risk management principles, working with key stakeholders and the programme team to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks.

You'll be financially and commercially savvy with a good understanding of budgeting and forecasting, cost control measures and financial reporting.

You'll be results oriented focused on delivering and achieving programme objectives, with an ability to track and measure progress against milestones.

You'll be familiar with relevant tools and technologies for programme management and have an intimate understanding of industry best practices and standards.
