The Organisation:

About the Position:
The Group Manager – Community Spaces and Places brings the rich cultural heritage of Invercargill alive through providing arts and culture facilities that connect the past and present with the people of the region. In addition, the position ensures easy access to open spaces such as parks and urban landscapes, creating safe and welcoming places for people to gather, connect and play.
A key member of the Executive Team, the position will contribute to the Council business strategy as well as take overall responsibility for providing a wide range of essential and highly sought after Council services, including the Museum, ensuring they are fit for purpose and reflect the communities they serve.
Skills and Experience:
You will be a visionary leader, able to see how best to connect the physical world and the stories and objects that reflect the people of Invercargill, creating a city that better meets the needs for future citizens.
A compelling communicator, you will form sustainable and effective relationships within the Council and across the community. You will also understand the importance of effective community engagement to get support for Invercargill’s Museum and other arts and culture facilities.
An expert at planning, you will ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
In addition you will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification
A minimum of 10 years in a senior leadership role with significant people and financial management experience within a large/complex environment
Proven experience leading, coaching and motivating team members, promoting employee engagement with constructive feedback, openness, acknowledgement and trust
Proven ability to effectively manage complex budgets and ability to achieve goals in a tight financial environment
Demonstrated ability to operate in a political environment with a high degree of professionalism and integrity
Up-to-date knowledge of the range of statutes that pertain to Council Services under the Local Government Act
Thorough understanding of the roles and functions of local Government in New Zealand and good practice in these areas
