This Emergency Service in a regional general hospital has registrar positions available starting January 2024 for six month runs.  These are FACEM accredited training runs and also suitable for trainee GPs (accepted by RNZCGP). Emergency Department doctor staffing consists of a Clinical Leader, eight Medical Officers/Specialists and four Registrars/SHOs/House Officers.

The department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.

Clinical Responsibilities include To perform and document an appropriate history and physical exam for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

To undertake appropriate investigations to formulate a diagnosis.

To review any concerns about patient presentation, treatment or diagnosis with the ondutysenior doctor, or Clinical Leader.

To relieve acute pain or distress where possible.

To manage and treat the patient according to best clinical practice possible and in accordance with DHB protocols where applicable.

To record either a definitive or differential diagnosis/clinical impression.

To communicate with the nursing staff any necessary interventions, investigations, disposition plans, discharge instructions, etc.

To record all medications dosages and treatments given in the ED.

Provide any needed documentation for patients upon their disposition from the Emergency Department, such as admission/holding orders, prescriptions, ACC forms, work releases, patient instructions, and/or referral/followup letters.

Refer patients onto specialist care or back to their named General Practitioner for followup where appropriate.

Preferred Requirementsmedical degree and eligibility for general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealandat least one year's post graduate experience.
