Adventure Hostels NZ –New Zealand's best-rated hostel group are on the hunt for vibrant, engaging & focused individuals to join the team our newly acquired hostel in Christchurch – Urbanz Hostel.
This role focuses primarily Housekeeping of beds, bathrooms, communal spaces and daily deep cleans.
The role is live-in only.
Past work experience at hostels or hotels is not necessary, but our small teams and variety of work duties require AH staff to be enthusiastic, dynamic, have solid interpersonal hospitality skills and a strong work ethic.
This Housekeeping position is 11 hours of work per week and this is split between a 2 or 3-day work week.
Our rosters are fixed/set and do not change on a week-to-week basis.
Which leaves open the possibility of you easily finding a second job and being able to plan that into your week.
Our live-in staff will also share the responsibility two or three times weekly acting as fire warden, in the event of emergencies.
This requires them to remain on-site overnight in an on-call capacity.
Our night warden is paid on an on-call basis for any callouts that may be required – such as guests locking themselves out of their rooms or anybody that checks in late requiring assistance.
The acting night warden is provided with a private room.
Your Home Adventure Hostels are small to medium sized hostels, with between 60-140 beds, which is perfect size to generate the fun, friendly and familial atmosphere that our guests seek out.
All four of our South Island Hostels are located in their heart of the destination, so you're only a few minutes' walk to everything that Christchurch, Queenstown or Wanaka has to offer.
All of our team members live-in house at our hostels, in quality staff accommodation that is heavily discounted.
For Urbanz staff, they have access to a dedicated staff dormitory, priced at $210 per week.
For the live-in staff, we deduct this cost from the hours worked based on an hourly rate of $23.15 plus 8% holiday.

Our Team Members will closely follow our well-developed procedures and systems, complete task checklists and will ensure that each and every interaction that they have with our guests is about maximising their experience at our hostels.

Our Team Members are rostered on a fixed weekly roster, but no single day at our hostels is ever the same.
Qualifications You love interacting with people from all walks of life and nationalities You're the life of the party, extroverted, and able to handle a crowd.
You keep things neat, organized, and focused.
You can keep your heat when the pressure hits You understand that we are a business, and that maximising revenue is an important aspect of your role.
You're creative, innovative, and not afraid to share ideas, or ask for help.
You'll also hold the right to work within New Zealand, have a New Zealand bank account and IRD number already set up.
Lastly, you're committing to stay with us for at least the next four months and ideally through Winter season 2024.
Responsibilities Performing housekeeping duties, which will include: Changing of beds on check-out Deep cleans of specific areas of the hostel Daily kitchen & bathroom cleans Vacuum and mopping of communal spaces Washing of all linens using provided washing machines and dryers Nightly kitchen closes between 10:00-11:00pm (rostered three times or twice weekly)You'll need to provide a great customer experience for all of our guests.
Be attentive, social, and generally add positive enthusiasm to the overall atmosphere when not engaged with other duties.
You may be asked to provide a welcome tour to new arrivals, showcasing our amenities, facilities and generally welcoming each new guest into the Adventure family.
Completing any additional tasks given to you by your line manager.
The additional tasks may include deep cleaning, administrative or maintenance related tasks.
Adventure Hostels will never provide you with any tasks that you would be unable to complete either due to skill or physicality.
Training will always be provided when needed.
Always try to maintain a professional attitude when inside the Hostel, urging Guests to follow the rules and to not encourage any behaviors deemed to be unwanted within the hostel.
This also means reporting any discovered illicit activities or behaviors of Guests or Staff to Management immediately.
Adventure Hostels do not condone or tolerate the use or storage of drugs on-site.
