Job Description

Help shape the future of Education

He mea tārai e mātou te mātauranga kia rangatira ai, kia mana taurite ai ōna huanga

We work to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga – Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

About Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko – Infrastructure and Digital

Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko | Infrastructure and Digital leads inclusive, accessible and integrated digital and physical infrastructure and transport services to the education system. Our group delivers technological solutions for a more ‘networked’ system, in which digital and technology solutions are considered alongside local and regional network infrastructure needs.

The Engagement Team works collaboratively, has loads of laughs, reacts positively to challenges and prides itself on innovative communication solutions.

Mō tēnei tū ranga – About this role

As young people’s lives and learning have moved increasingly online, we are increasing our investment and visibility in digital infrastructure and output. We are growing our support for schools, kaiako, and ākonga and we need to communicate that to them and all New Zealanders.

Te Uepū Matihiko – Digital supports the education system to engage online, from web platforms to cyber security to a national strategy.

This is a new role to support our digital work, as part of the wider Infrastructure and Digital Engagement Team.

We need a strong communicator and relationship builder to provide external and internal engagement support across the Group with a focus on supporting Te Uepū Matihiko – Digital.

As this is a new role, you will be an advocate for, and driver of, effective engagement and communications within the business. You will part of an experienced and supportive team of engagement and communications professionals.

Mōhou ake – About you

If you have strong communications and engagement skills – both strategically and in delivery – we’re keen to hear from you. You will be able to work positively across the group, with a purposeful and innovative approach. You will bring a knowledgeable, calm, positive and proactive style to stakeholder engagement.

You will also offer the following:

Experience in delivering high quality stakeholder engagement and communications
Communications planning and delivery
Ability to decode technical language into plain English
The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga
A warm and collegial working style.

Kua rite koe mō tēnei mahi? – Are you ready to make a difference?

We need to reflect the diverse communities we serve, so we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, orientations, and identities. As an organisation, we are committed to building racial equity and excellence in the education sector.

We provide flexible working environments where everyone feels relevant, valued and supported. So, if working from home and/or having a flexible start and finish to the day will help with this, we can usually make it happen. We’d love to hear what this might look like for you, so feel free to outline this in your cover letter.

In your cover letter we’d like to know:

about you, your values, your whakapapa
your interest and motivations for this role
the abilities, strengths, personal attributes and diverse perspectives you will bring to the role and this organisation.

The Ministry encourages all employees to be fully vaccinated although currently this is a voluntary requirement. There is no requirement to show evidence of your vaccine status as this role is not covered by the Public Health (Vaccinations) Order.

Please review the Position Description and if this opportunity interests you, and you meet the requirements, apply now using the ‘Apply Online’ button.

Law is a system of rules that are created and enforced through social or governmental institutions to regulate behavior. Law as a system helps regulate and ensure that a community show respect, and equality amongst themselves. State-enforced laws can be made by a collective legislature or by a single legislator, resulting in statutes, by the executive through decrees and regulations, or established by judges through precedent, normally in common law jurisdictions. Private individuals can create legally binding contracts, including arbitration agreements that may elect to accept alternative arbitration to the normal court process. The formation of laws themselves may be influenced by a constitution, written or tacit, and the rights encoded therein. The law shapes politics, economics, history and society in various ways and serves as a mediator of relations between people.
