The Translation Service is a busy office within the Department of Internal Affairs that collaborates across government to develop multilingual communications and materials for New Zealand’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities.

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Translation Project Manager to join our team. Expertise in multilingual cross-cultural communication, translating and translation project management are highly valued for this position, as are linguistic and written language expertise. Expertise in Te Reo Māori or a Pacific language are particularly valued for this position.

The Translation Project Manager manages a variety of translation projects to ensure that deliverables meet client expectations as well as working on activities to promote and improve language services. This involves engaging and liaising with clients and external providers, accurately scoping projects, monitoring projects to ensure they are delivered on schedule, ensuring translations are of a high quality and preparing them for publication. You will also work collaboratively with other members of the team and with a wide range of clients and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in the language industry as a translator, project manager or graphic designer, or will have worked in an organisation where multilingualism was the norm. You will have excellent communication skills, a proven track record for problem solving and providing excellent service to customers. You will have an understanding of cross-cultural and linguistic issues and an in-depth understanding of how high-quality translations are produced. Skills that will give you an advantage include a strong attention to detail as well as experience editing, working with multilingual texts, print and web publishing, marketing and using tools such as InDesign.

If you thrive on cutting edge projects, a genuine challenge, and knowing that what you do has a genuine impact a diverse range of people, we would very much like to hear from you.

Marketing is the study and management of exchange relationships. The American Marketing Association has defined marketing as "the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large." Marketing is used to create, keep and satisfy the customer. With the customer as the focus of its activities, it can be concluded that Marketing is one of the premier components of Business Management - the other being Innovation.
