Nurse Practitioner - Ear Nose and Throat Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District Service : Ear Nose and Throat Sub-Regional Service Contract : Permanent – Full time or part time negotiable Salary : Grade 6 Nurse Practitioner Salary Scale - As per MECA (31 March 2023 – 31 October 2024) We have an exciting opportunity for either a Matanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner (NP) or a NP Intern in a well-supported NP candidacy, within the Ear Nose Throat (ENT) area of practice.

The advanced nursing role is based with and supported by the sub-regional ENT / Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck (ORL) Surgical Service.

The Matanga Tapuhi NP-ENT is an autonomous practitioner who works independently and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team.

The role is integral to providing an individual and population-based approach to meet healthcare needs.

This cross-sector role improves access to assessment and coordinated intervention for patients with ORL conditions across inpatient, outpatient and community outreach settings across the District.

This requires a flexible approach, to provide consultation, direct care and treatment enabling episodes of care management, as well as consultative support through clinical advice and education.

A focus on addressing health disparities through clinics that improve children's timely access to specialist services, means the outpatient setting is predominantly the practice setting the Matanga Tapuhi NP works in.

Outreach clinics with a focus on Maori and Pacific peoples in other settings may be developed when the Matanga Tapuhi NP is well established in the role.

The advanced practice role is integral to the provision and ongoing development of high-quality patient care - that promotes optimal experience and equitable outcomes for patients and their whanau.

The Matanga Tapuhi NP role contributes through leadership (both clinically and professionally), research utilisation and activities to contribute to practice excellence and positively influence health service delivery.

The role is responsive to service prioritises.

The Matanga Tapuhi NP will take a lead role in supporting ongoing development of an effective advanced nursing model to enhance timely access to care and expertise for patients with ORL conditions.

The ENT/ORL team are a collaborative team consisting of 10 Senior Medical Officers (SMOs), five Registrars, 2 Clinical Nurse Specialist and a House Surgeon.

The team is committed to strengthening the advanced nursing roles within the service to improve outcomes for the population.

Our goals are the provision of excellent patient care, educational and role development opportunities for all members of the team within an environment that fosters innovation and research.

The ENT team work closely with the wider MDTs and allied health professionals to improve patient outcomes and the enhance patient and whanau experience.

There is a strong focus in reducing inequity and sub-region access for ENT patients in the greater Wellington region (Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa).

We are looking for an advanced practice nurse that has a passion for ongoing learning and role development with the ability to share knowledge, support and develop the practice of others.

You will also be highly organised with exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills and able to demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness and reflection.

As a leader you will build or develop further a thorough understanding of quality improvement and clinical processes.

The ability to adapt to work effectively to different service approaches and to and influence outcomes is a valued skill.

This requires with colleagues to operationalise Te Whatu Ora's commitment to meet the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022 obligations as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner.

You will need Matanga Tapuhi NP registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).

Relevant clinical experience as well as leadership, coaching and mentoring experience.

Or if applying to start a Nurse Practitioner Candidacy: Registered Nurse (RN) and a current practising certificate with no restrictions from the NCNZ Expert level on the PDRP or Senior Expert pathway with at least four-years relevant practice expertise and experience working at an advanced RN practice level A Clinical Masters or the postgraduate courses to meet the requirements to apply for the 2025 national Nurse Practitioner Training Programme (NPTP) Complete the NPTP successfully to enable application for Nurse Practitioner registration by late 2025 or early 2026.

Unless a longer NP Candidacy is agreed on.

This includes planned practice development opportunities for NP Interns with regular professional and clinical support.

This includes clinical mentoring/supervision with an identified SMO and Matanga Tapuhi NP, nursing leadership and peer support, and access to regular professional supervision.
