About the Role We have an outstanding opportunity for permanent full-time or part-time role(s) available in our Te Puaruruhau department within Starship Children’s Health, starting in June 2025. The primary purpose of the role is to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in an inpatient/ day patient /clinic setting and to collaborate in the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency processes which are central to effective child protection practice. You will be involved in the provision of clinical care, teaching and research, administration, service delivery and professional development. Paediatricians in Te Puaruruhau provide a wide range of health-based child protection services to tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau from throughout metropolitan Auckland and Aotearoa. This includes acute inpatient and outpatient assessments, 24/7 after-hours call, services to tamariki and rangatahi engaged in statutory child protection processes (Gateway assessments), participation in Family Group Conferences and legal proceedings, peer review, teaching, quality-improvement and research. Te Puaruruhau is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in multi-disciplinary health-based child protection services for Starship Child Health. We are co-located with the Te Toka Tumai Family Violence Team, “Power to Protect” (the National Shaken Baby Prevention Program), Police, and Oranga Tamariki in Puāwaitahi, a unique multi-agency partnership across the road from Starship Children’s Health at 99 Grafton Road, central Auckland. Here, all agencies work together to address the child protection needs of some of the most vulnerable tamariki and rangatahi in Aotearoa. If it is necessary, further training and skilled supervision can be provided in our dynamic, experienced and highly supportive multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.
