About the Role The Older Persons' Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Alexandra Hospital, provides psychiatric and geriatric carefor the older members of our community.
We aspire to provide high qualityinpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age-relatedhealth conditions.
We work in partnership with our patients, their families,the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the bestpossible health outcomes.
Casualstaff need to be available for all shifts (morning, afternoons and nights) andfor weekends and school holidays.
Casual positions offer flexible working hoursand opportunities to apply for internal positions when they become available.
About the Team/Service/ Location Older Person's Mental Health isgrowing and developing service providing physical and mental healthprofessional development opportunities for the right applicant.
You will be joining a great teamthat values teamwork and is committed to supporting the best possible healthoutcomes for our elderly patients.
You will work alongside ourmultidisciplinary team consisting of specialist nurses, health care assistants,occupational therapist, physio, social worker, psychiatrist and psychologist.
About you You will have current NCNZregistration and practising certificate, with no conditions that exclude Mental Health Scope of Practice, and a minimum of one year's post-registration nursingexperience is desirable.
You will have knowledge of: Physical and mental disorders commonlyexperienced in older persons Contemporary treatment approachesincluding person-centred and trauma informed care, sensory modulation, andnon-pharmacological interventions Therapeutic use of psychiatricmedications Holistic mental health and riskassessment and care planning Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992 PPPR Act - Welfare Guardianship Your skills will include: Well-developed interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively inmulti-disciplinary team Ability to work effectively with patientswho have challenging behaviours Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for thepeople of New Zealand.
