ED and O&G House Officers
Southland Hospital

Mō te tūranga | About the role
We are interested to hear from House Officers for an initial ED run and Senior House Officers for our O&G run commencing March 2023. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter.
Following that and depending on your interest, we have a number of runs available for you to work in. These include:
General Surgery
Orthopaedics
General Medicine
Psychiatry
AT&R
ED (6 month run)
Paediatrics (6 month run)
Working in a close-knit team, you will have excellent access to your Registrar & Consultant, and unrivalled opportunities to experience many of the varied presentations to the hospital. You will be exposed to a number of medical situations that will equip you well for future training Registrar roles. You will have continued support in your professional development through 24/7 access to the library, weekly teaching and Grand Rounds, journal clubs, and regular RMO forums.
Mōu ake | About you
You will have at least one years’ postgraduate experience and be eligible for, or already hold, registration in New Zealand with Medical Council of NZ.
You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at
Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
