We have vacancies for two Senior Investigators in the Business Registries Team (BR). BR is part of the Market Integrity branch of Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Group, MBIE, with a vision to deliver world leading regulation in order to protect fairness and integrity of markets in New Zealand.
The Senior Investigator Business Registries undertakes investigative work primarily on behalf of the Registrar of Companies (Business Registries) and the Official Assignee of New Zealand (Insolvency and Trustee Service) working in partnership with colleagues to achieve objectives. As a Senior Investigator BR you will be part of a team that plays a crucial role in building trust and confidence in our economy, helping to make New Zealand a place where doing business is easy, transparent and fair.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:
Lead investigations, interviews, reporting on investigation progress, and providing input to relevant reports in relation to offending against the Companies and Insolvency Acts, as well as any other applicable legislation.
Using investigative knowledge and experience to assist in the development of an initial investigation plan for each case, with specific reference to identifying and securing relevant evidence, and then progress each investigation – adapting the plan as information is received and analysed.
Sound knowledge of the legislation governing prosecution processes, e.g. Solicitor-General’s Enforcement Guidelines, Criminal Procedures Act, New Zealand Bill of Rights Act, Evidence Act.
Builds and maintains effective relationships and partnerships with all stakeholders and participates as an active team member contributing knowledge and expertise needed to achieve MBIE’s outcomes.
We are, therefore, seeking high calibre applicants who have proven communication, investigation and analytical skills and are able to work in a high performing team environment.
Skills and Experience Required
Experience in leading, planning and/or undertaking complex criminal investigations and prosecutions, both independently and in a team environment.
Prepare, assist, oversee complex prosecution files to the highest standards required, giving evidence objectively and professionally in court, and assisting with the preparation and management of witnesses and exhibits as and when required.
Demonstrated sound understanding of New Zealand legislation, particularly the Companies, Insolvency, Privacy and Official Information Acts as well as being familiar with the offence provisions of the Retirement Villages Act, the Patents Act, the Act, the Trademarks Act and the Consumer Credits Act.
Excellent communication skills and ability to identify and manage risk with experience in delivering high quality files and reports within prescribed timeframes or other constraints.
Demonstrated planning and organising skills, including ability to maintain performance when under pressure, critical assessment of workflows, and appropriate prioritising of work.
A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships at any level, including developing trust and credibility with managers and staff.
Tertiary qualification, preferably in law enforcement or related field, and/or proven relevant experience in criminal investigation and prosecution related work.
Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
