This role is to assist Brin to ensure he lives his best life. This will be ensuring that Brin is able to access the community and his commitments to various activities. Assist him to follow his timetable and complete the tasks set. Provide personal cares and some household duties.
Duties Include:
Assisting Brin with dressing, toileting, showering, shaving and any tasks related to his care. Ensure he is always properly clean and wears clean clothing. His hair and body smell and look clean and he is presented in a clean and tidy manner.
Transporting Brin to activities listed on his timetable or requested by him. This may be bus trips or outings. Assisting him with activities such as planning and shopping for an evening meal, completing his walking and visiting friends.
Removing any fecal matter from his clothing, flannels, towels, and wheelchair seat cover if Brin has an accident. These need to be rinsed and washed with soap before placing in the washing machine. These need to be hung on the line or on an inside line if wet (either on a rack or in the garage).
Washing his bedding should he have an accident in the night. Hanging this out and remaking his bed. Brin could learn to assist you with this.
Assisting Brin with his exercise program of 3 walks per day and stretching in the spa (at least once per week). You will be required to get in with him. Assist him to make connections with others, which may be meeting friends for lunch or a movie.
Assist Brin with any purchases he may make, for example movie tickets or food. So he learns how to use an EFTPOS machine and check his financial balance on his phone. Assist Brin to plan a meal and buy ingredients and cook a meal once per week. Try to within reason have Brin assist you with tasks around the home, so that he can learn to complete some tasks independently.
Ensure Brin has 2 large drinks per day (750ml pump bottle). One at breakfast and lunch and then is toileted approximately an hour later. Assist Brin to manage this himself, by setting a timer after he has finished drinking and then heading to the toilet when the timer goes off.
Making breakfast and lunch with Brin assisting you if time allows. The day before he could plan and pack his lunch for the next day if it is an early outing.
Regularly check Brin’s body for pressure sores and notify me and treat if necessary.
Ensure his stoma is emptied as needed.
Complete household duties once a week. Washing the floor in the bathroom and kitchen, cleaning toilets, showers, basins, and mirrors. As well as dusting and vacuuming weekly.
Expectations when working with Brin are:
Brin is treated with kindness, care and respect.
If you are sick or unable to work, you notify me as soon as possible. The night before preferably.
Ensure you arrive at work on time.
When driving with Brin in the car ensure you drive within the speed limit and with utmost care.
Ensure Brin is securely fastened within the vehicle using the correct restraints.
Do not leave Brin in the vehicle unattended. If you need to leave him for a short period of time, discuss this with Brin. Identify how long you will be away and if he will need to come with you or not.
You will be responsible for paying for any speeding tickets or parking fines incurred while you are using the vehicle.
You will be provided with a disability parking permit. Please notify me when this is due to expire.
You will be provided with a vehicle to transport Brin. Should you damage the vehicle due to reckless driving you shall be responsible for covering the insurance excess. Please notify me of any damage to the vehicle while you are driving no matter how small.
Fill the vehicle with petrol, using the card provided. Notify me when the registration and warrant are due.
Ensure the house is left clean and tidy at the end of each day and that your time is managed to complete the daily tasks. For example, if Brin has an accident, please ensure the toilet is clean, removing fecal matter from the seat, under the seat and in the bowl as well as urine from the floor or wall before you leave. Any urine/food/drink that is spilled on the floor/carpet and splashes on the wall is cleaned up at the time.
Washing and hanging soiled items at the time as required.
To develop Brin’s independence as much as possible.
The carer shall not play on their phone or devices when they are being paid to care for Brin.
