About Us
For more that 20 years, Catalyst has been an outsider: a purely open source company, founded and based in New Zealand, and determined to offer people an alternative to the multi-national corporate software giants that are more focused on offshoring their profits than contributing to the communities that we all live and work in.
That fierce independence means we do it all. From consultancy, through design, development and testing. Every element of the software lifecycle. And over the last two decades, we have won over numerous clients, from large government agencies and enterprises, to non-profits and community groups, both here in Aotearoa and around the world. We think in a world dominated by software, that people’s rights and freedoms should be respected. That’s why at Catalyst, open source is not just what we do, it’s what we stand for.

Tip: Include references to any publicly available open source work, 'I have contributed 30 patches to the example project, which are available through '
Why you’ll love working at Catalyst
Catalyst is a team of committed, enthusiastic, talented, and passionate people with a strong set of proudly-held values around open source software. If you haven’t yet been introduced to the world of open source, let us show you! We champion open source technology because we know it gives people more freedom to innovate and grow. We believe open source values enable the world to be a better place.
We give back to the community by hosting and sponsoring a wide range of meet ups, conferences and other community events including our Academy, which gives high school students two weeks of running real-life projects with teams here at Catalyst.
Most importantly, being a good employer is really important to us. We make sure everyone has the support they need to develop their skills and further their career, and seek new opportunities around the business if they’re keen for a change. We offer lots of different types of training, and if you have a skill you want to share with the rest of Catalyst you can have a go at being the trainer yourself!
We look after your well-being, not just with health insurance and flexible working, but also by having strongly held values around building a respectful, inclusive community.
